Distance between 2 points on a plane
Q: Find the distance between the points P(1,-5) and Q(7,-5)
So we start with the distance formula:
Which is writen in our calculators as: SQRT((x2-x1)²+(y2-y1)²)
Example 1:
So we get SQRT((7-1)²+(-5+5)²)
SQRT((6)²+(0)²)
SQRT(36+0)
SQRT(36)=6
(all done in 1 step by calculator)
There for 6 is the distance between points P and Q
Example 2:
You can do part of it in your head if u want and start with the formula shown above
and get: SQRT((6)²+(0)²)
SQRT(36)=6
